Building Air Supply

There are two air handling units situated on level 30 in the plant room, that draw air into the building. The air is cooled or heated as required, filtered and then distributed throughout the building by ducting. These units operate continuously and are serviced every three months.

This air is delivered to each habitable level of the building and released into the foyer ceiling space. The air enters each apartment via a duct through the fire wall and this is the main source of fresh air to each apartment.

There are three toilet exhaust fans situated in level 31 plant room which are connect to each apartment by a series of ducting. These fans operate continuously drawing air from each apartment through vents in each toilet/bathroom area. This air is expelled through an exhaust area at the top of the Popes Hat on level 32.

The exhaust fans are not high speed and the addition of electrical fans to these vents interferes with the operation of the exhaust and air intake mechanics. Air supply and exhaust from each apartment has been calculated and the machinery maintains this balance.

The air conditioning in each apartment relies on this system for a constant fresh air supply helping to keep the apartment interior free from odours and moisture. Repairs or alterations to the ventilation systems should only be made with reference to the building manager.
